During week 6 we were tasked with creating a set of four concept art pieces using existing photos as a basis for the created drawings.
For my thumbnails I decided to create concept pieces for a deforestation scene, snowy scene (mountains), forest and park scene.
I first created the deforestation scene by drawing over a series of altered images to create the appearance of a destroyed forest with a large city in the background. Then I added colour to the image and a small amount of background mist.
I then decided to improve upon the image by adding a larger amount of mist and giving it a much more gloomy, dark series of colours.
For the second image I created a snowy mountain range for the blizzard scene. I did this by using different shades of grey to show the different forms of shade, in order to determine the depth of each part of the mountain. Then I added small amounts of white (snow) to the mountains and surrounding area. Then I added a small amount of shade to the surrounding snow, because I believed it made the snow look significantly better.
Finally, I added the snow blizzard effect (at a lower opacity/higher transparency) in order to add additional detail as to show how it would look without getting rid of any background detail.
For the woodland concept, I created one tree, copy and pasted it and added grass and light effects, in order to brighten the scene and to show light strands breaking through the trees.
Finally, I created a concept for a park scene by editing the previously used trees to appear more bright and to make it blend in more seamlessly to the lighting. Firstly I created the park set and area around the play park before moving on to the scene's foreground and background.
I added a layer of extra trees in the far background and a series of shading across the front and trees, as well as clouds and an assortment of bushes in the mid ground.
In conclusion, I believe I did well because of the variety of settings and themes that I covered. However, I could have improved on these concept scenes by adding additional detail and allowing the drawings to blend more seamlessly.
