NEXT-GEN Nescot Year 2 week 5 - tesseract

During week 5 we were tasked with creating a tesseract (a cube with six different textured sides). For this task I used Mudbox to edit a cube at a much higher definition than normally possible by lowering the size of the cube exponentially.

Firstly, in Mudbox I created the tesseract's textured sides before then bringing it to Maya. Maya showed a lower poly count to Mudbox, this is because Maya couldn't show the resolution given equivalent to the mix of size and poly count in Mudbox.

Next I created a bump mapping of each face in Photoshop and used a template of the UV mapping to position each bump map to the tesseract face squares.

Then I added the bump mapping to the tesseract. Originally, I had not beveled the tesseract cube. However, I needed to add the extra polygons due to the cube reverting into a sphere once the smooth preview was activated.

In conclusion, I like how the final textures appeared and they could be useful for future textures. On the other hand, I believe I could have improved upon them by creating more differentiating features on each texture due the the fact that they look rather similar.

NEXT-GEN Nescot Year 2 - Concept sounds

During week 5 we were tasked with finding a graphic designer, describe one of their concept images and say what the sounds could be. For my assignment I chose Craig Mullins who is a famous graphic designer because he creates traditional looking paintings using only a computer.

Craig Mullins

I chose this image because of its traditional and imposing appearance despite being a computer created painting. The mood of this image is both somber because of the smooth lighting and parade like appearance of the decorations and tense due to the intimidating, uniform marching that could be seen before travelling to war or as a show of force. The colour of the image is bright like a desert sun and it has a golden effect showing the royal-like position of the centered character. I believe the genre of the image shows it could be historical or fantasy within its Middle Eastern setting.

Possible background sounds can include:

1. Marching (people and elephants walking).

2. Elephant noises.

3. Commanders shouting orders to their troops (for marching).

4. Talking.

5. Arabian music/ Intimidating music/ Preparation music.

6. Metal clanking (armor clanking against each-other/each part or weapons hitting the floor during march).

7. Wind.

NEXT-GEN Nescot week 5 - script storyboard (Mind Tricks)

During week 5 we were tasked with creating a storyboard for one of three different scripts (Mind games, Future girl and Atonement). For my storyboard I chose the script "Mind games" which follows two friends called Connor and David who, at first, are sitting in a garage with David believing that his sister (Lauren) is a Jedi.

Firstly, I created character designs for Lauren, Connor and David tailored to each description of their characters. David is described as a specky teenager dressed in geek attire. Connor is not described, therefore I created a more generic design. Lauren is described as an attractive girl in her late teens, because of this I decided to create an accumulation of multiple recent trends in clothing such as ripped jeans.

Secondly, I created a set of pencil drawings to portray each panel of the stoyboard before then scanning each page onto a computer and drawing over each page in Photoshop. The first page shows an introduction to David and Connor while also setting the premise of the story by showing a figure of Darth Vader, showing the link towards the Starwars saga.

The script shows multiple flashbacks to when David believes he has seen Lauren having suspicious behaviour, however, Connor doesn't believe David and is only convinced to help David find evidence when David threatens to tell Lauren that Connor has a crush on her.

I created the second page which shows the differences in opinion between Connor and David and the first flashback, taking place outside of David's house. David throws a water balloon at Lauren, however Lauren steps out of the way seemingly knowing it was coming.

The Third page shows Connor sceptical reaction to David's claims, before then showing the second flashback. In the second flashback, it first shows David and Lauren siting in a living room across from a TV with the remote too far for either of them to reach.

The fourth page then shows David confused when Lauren suddenly has the remote in her hand and the TV has changed channel, despite this Connor still doesn't believe him.

(unfortunately I did not have enough time to complete all frames or highlight all the completed frames)

In the fifth page, it shows the final flashback to a day at school in which Lauren appears to be in trouble before waving her hand and seemingly Jedi mind tricks the teacher. However, Connor is still sceptical.

The story then leads to a series of events up to Connor being stuck in a car that is sinking into a lake. Lauren then lifts the car out of the lake using the force, reminiscent of Yoda in Starwars The Empire Strikes Back. David's suspicions are confirmed but Connor doesn't see, the ending shot shows all three of them watching TV with Lauren using the force to grab the remote while also still leaving Connor completely oblivious.

These series of events begin by David convincing Connor to get into the trunk of Lauren's car. However, I did not have time to complete the entire script.

I believe that I did well on this assignment because I like the level of detail on my highlighted pages, However, if I could improve anything in this assignment I would have completed the entire storyboard.

NEXT-GEN Nescot Year 4 HND - Going Indie (Final game, itch.io Link)

For the final part of my Game Development project (Topdown Shooter), I was required to upload my finished game to Itch.io, allowing my game ...
